B&M Joiners & Bespoke Services have always been committed to environmental responsibility. That said, ahead of COP26 in Glasgow, we’re redoubling our efforts to move towards Net Zero as a business. This is across all our products and services.
We are investing time and effort in looking for ways to improve our environmental impact as a business. It’s not just lip service. We are absolutely committed to doing whatever we reasonably can to protect our people, customers and wider society. Our view: if you look after people and society then it’s best placed to look after you.
More details will follow over the coming weeks and months. However, to give you a “flavour” of some of the things we’ve been up to in our ongoing journey to Net Zero, please see below.
Green Accreditation
It’s good to get advice and help on best practices in practical ways. We are delighted to be currently endorsed by Zero Waste Scotland for our eco business practices. We are actively working through the steps towards Platinum Accreditation.
Reduce, Recycle, Reuse.
Reduced consumption was always a sensible business practice. In 2021, we are now fully engaged in both recycling and promoting the re-use of more materials than ever. This covers our workplace and onsite at clients’ premises. The areas we focus on include:
- Windows – including sash and case windows
- Kitchens,
- Timber,
- Metal,
- Architectural Salvage
Coming soon are our posts on Freecycle, Freegle and Facebook Shop. We’re also looking at further community options for our used tools and equipment.
Enviro Skip Hire
For necessary waste management, we have established a new partnership with Enviro Skip Hire Ltd. They have two fully licensed recycling facilities to allow all waste to be sorted into recyclables and non-recyclables. Every little helps.
Tree Planting & Lifetimes’ CO2 Carbon offset.
To further offset our carbon footprint, we are committed to using tree planting via both the National Trust and One Life One Tree. One Life supports the Sequoia Project, where one tree can offset one person’s carbon footprint for a lifetime.
Electric Vans
Our company vehicle policy is supported by the Energy Saving Trust. One active consideration is whether the timing is right to move our fleet fully to electric vehicles. If this is something that you are considering, then we’d be delighted to learn and share our collective experiences.
In Summary
These are just some of the current projects we have underway to help improve the environmental credentials of B&M Joiners & Bespoke Services. More will follow and we’ll keep you informed as to our progress. This is, however, best achieved as a collective effort.
